Wisdom of the Mountain Lion

This mountain lion by Danette Laate will always be warm with a Sunface on its back.  Carved from shimmering mother of pearl and Sunface is inlaid on its back with red coral, jet, and turquoise.  There are four turquoise dots inlaid in the cardinal directions.  In addition to its beauty, this carving can help you or a loved one remember to call upon the spirit of the mountain lion for wisdom.

In Zuni Pueblo, mountain lions are the guardians of the north, which is where wisdom lives.  They are sleek hunters who are primarily solitary predators.  Full of grace, they move through life silently and with great power until they want you to hear or see them.

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
